This journey into Nuad Boran has led me…
back to myself. And when I remember the child, the teen, the young woman who spent hours drawing, daydreaming, studying and practicing, I am filled with compassion and love for that child and subsequently, others. Usually, I think that the artifacts I make are much less important than the moments and breaths shared with other beings on this journey through life. Sometimes, it’s like Jim Carroll talks about in Tiny Tortures (Praying Mantis), where, once you had the “aha”, once a piece is conceived, the rest is all ego: “ah- see- I made that, see how brilliant/virtuous/skilled I am...”. Not so with bodywork. When another being and I co-create a safe space in which healing, learning and transcendence can occur, not only does it happen in the ever-present now, but there is no need of materials and no tangible object left over. This practice of meditation, prayer and study that began over two years ago reminds me though: “...already, I have struck them down; you are just my instrument, Arjuna.” And so, I am just a conduit. That happens to like drawing and fashioning things with her hands. Through whatever I have been given, I hope to serve others, for in doing so, I serve myself as well, and hopefully manifest God’s grace.
